Early Intervention for Families
This program provides counseling support and information to families who are encountering a first episode of psychosis. Family is defined by the SSO as 'caring relationships between people with schizophrenia, their relatives, friends, and other individuals in a supportive capacity'. SSO provides navigational support and counseling to families to help ensure that those experiencing their first episode of psychosis are identified quickly, receive the best combination of services and supports given their unique needs, and are supported in their recovery.

Family Support and Education
The SSO provides group support opportunities to families of those affected by serious mental illness. This support takes the form of family support groups, based on self-help and peer support models, as well as a ten week psycho-educational programs for families.

Consumer Support Groups:
SSO runs support groups across the province for people living schizophrenia. SSO's consumer support groups endeavor to increase the ability of participants to meet personal recovery goals through exploring the many aspects of recovery, sharing knowledge and tools that help participants take responsibility for their wellness and stability, introducing a variety of self-help techniques, finding effective ways to reach out to family members, friends, and service providers, understanding medications, and personal recovery planning. SSO also provides one-on-one counseling supports to individuals living with schizophrenia on an as-needed basis.

Public Awareness
This program reaches out to the community at large to raise awareness about the signs and symptoms of psychotic disorders, encouraging early recognition and treatment. The objectives are to disseminate accurate information about psychotic disorders, thus dispelling the myths and misunderstanding that leads to the stigmatization of those affected by mental illness. This program strives to raise public awareness regarding the early signs and symptoms of psychosis, by encouraging families, friends, and individuals to seek help early. This is achieved through the dissemination of information resources, public information forums, and presentations to youth in both school and community-based agencies.
